This blog illustrates a point of view on the recommended language policy for urban and semi-rural schools in India, with inputs from research findings from the fields of cognitive neuroscience, early childhood psychology, bilingualism, language learning. The English language is considered as the first common language across the globe. In the modern world, the English language is involved in the integral component of every field in existence. It is an international medium of communication, information, entertainment, technology, science, and so on. Research shows that, while communicating in English as a lingua franca, people tend to employ a range of strategies and practices to ensure that they arrive at a common understanding. There is evidence, however, that these are not sufficiently incorporated in current teaching and learning practices, which prevents learners from achieving their potential as efficient users of English.

Pedagogical implications The study provided valuable insights into the perceptions of Turkish students, who are studying in an Anglophone-centre context, regarding the role of English as a lingua franca in academia. a vital commodity in the globalised world, it is on the other also true that globalisation raises issues for second language learning and teaching.
